Overseer Michelle Pitts Luckett is a Milwaukee-born visionary, entrepreneur, and faith-driven community leader whose life’s work reflects compassion, resilience, and a deep commitment to serving others.
As President and Owner of The New Pitts Mortuary, she has spent decades guiding families with dignity and care, transforming moments of loss into pathways of healing.

Michelle’s entrepreneurial journey began at just 22 years old, when she boldly chose to build her own future. From selling food in her neighborhood to co-developing the successful Redd’s Snappers Seafood brand, she quickly established herself as an innovative and determined businesswoman.
Her path shifted profoundly in 1996 after the passing of her late husband, Terrance Pitts. Stepping into leadership of his family’s funeral home, she rebuilt and expanded it into the respected institution The New Pitts Mortuary is today—turning personal grief into a lifelong calling.
A woman of unwavering faith, Michelle is known for her heart for people and her dedication to uplifting the Milwaukee community. Her leadership is rooted in compassion, connection, and service, guiding her work both in ministry and in business.
Michelle’s impact has earned her numerous awards, including the CYD Image Award, the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors New Black Caucus Award, the City of Milwaukee Black History Award, and recognition as Woman of the Year by a local radio station.
Most recently during one of her partnership community events entitled “Stronger Together Brighter Tomorrow - A Day of Love, Hope & Community, Michelle received one of the highest honors of her career: a multitude of official proclamations from city, county, and state officials, including Governor Tony Evers, recognizing her decades of service. And on July 11, 2026, Mayor Cavalier Johnson formally declared the day “Michelle Pitts‑Luckett Day” in the City of Milwaukee—an annual, permanent observance. Leaders from across the region attended the ceremony and returned on two separate occasions to present additional proclamations celebrating her extraordinary influence and commitment to the community.
Beyond her business and civic work, Michelle is a voice of encouragement and inspiration. She hosts The New Pitts Mortuary’s Gospel Hour on WNOV radio and collaborates with community partners to promote unity, empowerment, and growth throughout Milwaukee.
