Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1957 through the faith, vision, and obedience of Dr. Donnie Sims and Mother Nealie Sims. What began as a small gathering of five members in their home quickly grew into a thriving ministry rooted in the Word of God, service, and community.
A Vision Begins (1957)
In November 1957, the first worship service was held at 2959B North 8th Street. Through prayer, perseverance, and faithful leadership, the church began to grow and welcome others into fellowship.
Growing in Faith
As membership increased, the church expanded into new locations across Milwaukee, including:
9th & Vliet
12th & Walnut
210 W. Keefe Avenue (first purchased and renovated building)
Each step reflected God’s continued provision and the faithfulness of the congregation.
A Season of Expansion
In 1979, the church established a new home at 2328 West Capitol Drive, marking a period of continued growth and development. Over the years, improvements and expansions strengthened the ministry, and by the early 2000s, the church had fully paid off its property—a testament to God’s faithfulness.
Serving Beyond the Walls
Jerusalem extended its mission into the community through impactful programs, including:
After-school tutoring and learning support
Computer training programs
Community outreach initiatives
Through these efforts, the church has remained committed to uplifting individuals and strengthening families.
A New Chapter (2006–2007)
With continued growth, Jerusalem moved into its current home at: 2505 W. Cornell Street

Dedication: August 16, 2007
This moment marked a new season of vision, growth, and opportunity for ministry.
Legacy of Leadership
Dr. Donnie Sims faithfully led Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with a servant’s heart, dedicating his life to preaching the Gospel, developing leaders, and serving the broader community.
Together, Dr. Sims and Mother Nealie Sims built a foundation of faith, compassion, and commitment that continues to guide the church today.
